Abstract

The study examined the role of digital financial inclusion in widening access to financial services and supporting economic empowerment in India. The study adopted a descriptive and analytical design based on secondary information from the Reserve Bank of India, National Payments Corporation of India, World Bank and relevant academic literature. The evidence reviewed indicated that digital financial services can reduce transaction frictions, expand convenient payment access, support small businesses and strengthen participation in formal financial services. At the same time, digital inequality, limited digital literacy, cyber-security risks, privacy concerns and uneven infrastructure can restrict effective inclusion. Inclusive digital finance requires complementary investment in connectivity, financial literacy, consumer protection, cyber-security and grievance redressal. The paper reframed the discussion from digital-payment adoption alone towards the broader relationship between digital financial inclusion and economic empowerment, while retaining a secondary-data research design and avoiding unsupported claims of primary survey findings.
