CRM platforms like Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics can be a great help to companies by making the way they deal with the customers very efficient and at the same time simplifying the processes and making them more profitable. However, as the businesses develop and change, the main problem becomes how to fit these platforms in the best way to the particular needs of the company. Therefore, customization of the CRM platform is very important as it makes the platform more effective. This research intends to explore the best approaches for modifying Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics and explain how even simple configurations and developments can keep processes running/enhance them while still not compromising the performance and scalability of the systems. This paper aims to locate the differences between the two systems by evaluating the customization options of the two platforms, including their declarative tools, extensibility options, and integration frameworks. The methodology is a mixture of study of industry practices, platform documentation review, and analysis of real-case scenarios for the identification of common challenges and successful strategies. The major advantages include: increasing user adoption, enhancing operational efficiency, reducing technical debt, and getting business closer to CRM. Overall, this paper points out that planned customization is the way to open the full potential of CRM systems without encountering problems that are the result of over-engineering or bad implementation choices.
